Bourbonnais man facing firearm charges after gun battle in Kankakee

A 28-year-old Bourbonnais man is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and felon in possession of a weapon after exchanging gunshots with a Kankakee man Monday morning, according to Kankakee Police Chief Christopher Kidwell.Dezuan S. Turner-Owens is currently being held at Jerome Combs Detention Center, according to police records. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and reports of gunfire near East Court Street and North Rosewood Avenue at 9:52 a.m. Monday. Officers located an injured 39-year-old Kankakee man who was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to Kidwell.Preliminary investigation indicates an occupant in a car and a man on foot exchanged gunfire. Officers recovered a firearm and bullet casings at the scene and located the vehicle believed to have been involved, according to Kidwell.
